Bible. Rest to the People of God
The LORD God of Israel swore to our father Abraham, that He would grant unto us, that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve Him in holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life.
67
And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, Mat 1, 21. 69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; Psa 131, 17. Eze 29, 21. 70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: Psa 71, 4. Jer 23, 6. Jer 30, 8-10. 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; Gen 22, 16. Gen 26, 3. Lev 26, 42. Jer 31, 33. 73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, Heb 6, 13. 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, Rom 8, 15. Heb 2, 15. 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. 1Pe 1, 15. Eph 4, 24.
Rest remains to the people of God
1
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, (εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ), any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 1Pe 1, 12. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, (εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν) as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest(εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου): although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. Heb 3, 11. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest (κατέπαυσεν ὁ θεὸς) the seventh day from all his works. Gen 2, 2. Exo 20, 11. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest (εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου). Psa 95, 11. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Heb 3, 7-8. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest (κατέπαυσεν), then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God (σαββατισμὸς τῷ λαῷ τοῦ θεοῦ). Rev 7, 14. Rev 14, 13. 10 For he that is entered into his rest (εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ), he also hath ceased (αὐτὸς κατέπαυσεν) from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest (εἰς ἐκείνην τὴν κατάπαυσιν), lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
11
So I sware in my wrath, They
shall not enter
into my rest (εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν μου).
Psa 95, 7-11.
Num 14, 23.
Heb 4, 11.
‹…› 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest (εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ), but to them that believed not?
The seventh day is an holy day — a sabbath of rest to the LORD
21
Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest (καταπαύσεις): in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest (καταπαύσεις).
Exo 20, 9.
2
Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day (δὲ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ κατάπαυσις), a sabbath of rest to the LORD: (ἅγιον σάββατα ἀνάπαυσις κυρίῳ): whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
Exo 20, 9.
Exo 31, 14.
The LORD hath chosen Zion for his habitation
13
For the LORD hath chosen Zion;
he hath desired
it
for
his habitation.
1Ki 9, 3.
14 "This is my rest for ever ( κατάπαυσίς μου εἰς αἰῶνα αἰῶνος): here will I dwell; for I have desired it. 1Ki 8, 13.
14
And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest (καὶ καταπαύσω σε).
Deu 4, 37.
