Bible. Repentance

Repentance (greek μετάνοια) is for sinners

7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Mat 23, 33. Luk 3, 7.
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance (τῆς μετανοίας):

10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Mat 7, 19.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance (εἰς μετάνοιαν): but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Mar 1, 8. Luk 3, 16. Jhn 1, 26. Act 1, 5. Act 2, 2-4.
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Luk 3, 17.

10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (εἰς μετάνοιαν). Hos 6, 6. Mat 12, 7. Mar 2, 17. Luk 5, 32.

1 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying,
4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? Mat 18, 12.
5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth (ἐπὶ ἑνὶ ἁμαρτωλῷ μετανοοῦντι), more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance (οἵτινες οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν μετανοίας).

First is repentance, then — remission of sins

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: Isa 53, 4. Luk 24, 27.
47 And that repentance (μετάνοιαν) and remission of sins (ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν) should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Act 3, 15.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Act 2, 33. Act 4, 12. 1Jo 2, 1-2.

Repentance unto life

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Act 2, 2.
16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Mat 3, 11. Mar 1, 8. Act 1, 5. Act 19, 4.
17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life (τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ὁ θεὸς τὴν μετάνοιαν ἔδωκεν εἰς ζωὴν).

9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance (ἐλυπήθητε εἰς μετάνοιαν): for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation (μετάνοιαν εἰς σωτηρίαν) not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 1Pe 2, 19.

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, Tit 3, 2.
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth (μετάνοιαν εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας); Act 8, 22.
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

The Lord is willing that all should come to repentance

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Psa 90, 4.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (πάντας εἰς μετάνοιαν χωρῆσαι). Eze 18, 32. Eze 33, 11. 1Ti 2, 4.

Repentance is necessary for redemption

20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:
21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness. Lev 16, 10.

1 And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity. Deu 17, 4.
2 Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty. Hag 2, 13. 2Co 6, 17. Lev 11, 24.
3 Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty. Lev 11, 12.
4 Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these. Srh 23, 13. Jas 3, 2.
5 And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing:
6 And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin.
7 And if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which he hath committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering. Lev 12, 8. Luk 2, 24.

5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
6 Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do a trespass against the LORD, and that person be guilty; Lev 6, 2.
7 Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed. Luk 19, 8.

3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; Exo 20, 6. Deu 7, 9. Neh 1, 5. Neh 9, 32.
5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: Psa 106, 6. Brh 1, 17. Brh 2, 12.
6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. Jer 44, 16.

20 And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. Dan 8, 16.
