Dominicans (Ordo fratrum praedicatorum, O.P.)Dominicans, Dominican Order, Order of Brothers Preachers (Ordo fratrum praedicatorum, O.P.), is a Catholic monastic order. Founded in 1214 by the Spanish monk St. Dominic. The female (second) branch of the order is the Dominican. The third branch of the order is the tertiaries. Tertiaries are both men and women who have taken vows and lead a life in accordance with the spirituality of the order, but remain in the world.
