I, as a believer, believe that both the tsar, and the Church, and the entire Orthodox Russian people violated the precepts of Christianity by the fact that the tsar, for example, incorrectly ruled the country, the Church took care of its own material well-being, forgetting the spiritual interests of the flock, and the people, falling away from faith, indulged in drunkenness, debauchery and other vices. How, then, did the Council, which sat for more than one month and sometimes dealt with the most secondary questions, not find time to devote its energies to a question that, in its own opinion, went beyond the competence of the Synod? Rather, the Cathedral, in the vast majority of its members, was so far from the essence of the issue, so little interested in it, that it simply "handed it over to the commission" in order to push this still unpleasant trifle off their shoulders, because of which someone quarrels and worries the members of the Council with his appeals.
