Michael Novoselov

Mikhail Alexandrovich Novoselov is a Russian theologian and spiritual writer. Ranked among the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in 2000.

Born: July 13, 1864; Tver province
Died: January 17, 1938; Vologda

In 1902-1917 he was the publisher of the Religious and Philosophical Library.

Defender of imyaslavie — the doctrine of the name of God, whose supporters were expelled from Athos and were persecuted.

In 1922-1927 he wrote his main work — Letters to Friends.

in 1927 he did not accept the "Declaration" of Metropolitan. Sergius (Stragorodsky) and, accordingly, went into hiding.

In 1930, he was arrested as the head of the "Political Center of the All-Union Church-Monarchist Organization 'True Orthodoxy'".

On January 17, 1938, he was sentenced to death by a decree of the Vologda NKVD; shot on the same day.

I consider the revolution, the Soviet power,
a punishment for the correction of the Russian people

I, as a believer, believe that both the tsar, and the Church, and the entire Orthodox Russian people violated the precepts of Christianity by the fact that the tsar, for example, incorrectly ruled the country, the Church took care of its own material well-being, forgetting the spiritual interests of the flock, and the people, falling away from faith, indulged in drunkenness, debauchery and other vices. I consider the revolution, the Soviet power, a punishment for the correction of the Russian people and the establishment of the truth that was violated by the former state life … (Interrogation August 7, 1930).

Novoselov about imyaslavie

How, then, did the Council, which sat for more than one month and sometimes dealt with the most secondary questions, not find time to devote its energies to a question that, in its own opinion, went beyond the competence of the Synod? Rather, the Cathedral, in the vast majority of its members, was so far from the essence of the issue, so little interested in it, that it simply "handed it over to the commission" in order to push this still unpleasant trifle off their shoulders, because of which someone quarrels and worries the members of the Council with his appeals. For, of course, if the members of the Council had understood in any way the inner significance of the Athos dispute, they would not have reacted to it with such hateful indifference, which is the greatest testimonium paupertatis [(Latin) evidence of failure] of the Council: and if St. The Synod at one time discovered frivolity that did not correspond to the seriousness of the matter, then the Council sinned with unacceptable slowness resulting from thoughtlessness. In short, both the Holy Synod and the All-Russian Church Council were not at the height of the issue that was put forward by the Providence of God on the Holy Mount Athos.

Священная тайна Церкви
Глава XI: Собор, революция, подполье

Do not leave the ranks of the good soldiers of Christ

Blessed is he who trusts in the omnipotence of the meek Lamb, slain for the salvation of the world, and who does not depart from Him amid the grave temptations that come upon the Church through the treachery of it's ancient enemy, and who does not leave the ranks of the good soldiers of Christ, inspired by the hope of participation in the worldwide triumph of the Church of Christ having to be revealed at the end of the world!
