Sasagawa, Agnes Apparitions. Akita Messages of Our Lady of Akita

Akita. Historical dates

  • May 12, 1973
Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa decided to enter the order of Eucharist Servants of Jesus located in Akita, Japan.
  • June 12, 1973
While opening the chapel Sr. Agnes saw brilliant mysterious rays emanate suddenly from the tabernacle. The same thing happened on each of the two days that followed.
  • June 14, 1973
Sister Agnes was praying with the community before the Blessed Sacrament when suddenly a light flashed from the tabernacle. Unlike the previous incident, the rays of the golden light were enveloped by a red flame. It seemed that the whole tabernacle was on fire. The sisters didn't see anything.
  • June 28, 1973
On Thursday, June 28, eve of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Sister Agnes again saw a blinding light from the Blessed Sacrament, rays of light, and a multitude of angels surrounding the altar in adoration before the Host. In the evening, another mysterious event occurred. While praying in the chapel, Sister Agnes felt as though something pierced the palm of her left hand. There, in the center of her palm, were two red scratches in the form of a cross. As days went by, the pain became increasingly intense. This phenomenon recurs every week, and Bishop Ito himself witnesses it: on Thursday evening, the wound is still dried out, but it begins to swell up, and scratches form on the skin. On Friday morning, blood flows and impregnates the bandages of gauze. On Saturday morning, the wound stops bleeding and becomes dry again. This phenomenon lasted the whole month of July.
  • June 29, 1973
Feast of the Sacred Heart. This time the Guardian Angel prayed the Rosary with Sister Agnes but very slowly. He asked her to add Fatima prayer after prayers of the Rosary.
  • July 6, 1973
The Guardian Angel again appeared and began to recite the rosary with Sister Agnes before the wooden statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the chapel. Then the statue of the Virgin Mary came to life, and a voice of indescribable beauty struck Sister Agnes' totally-deaf ears. This was to be the first Message of Mary... As the Guardian Angel had told, a cross-shaped wound, similar to that of Sister Agnes, appeared in the right hand of the statue of the Blessed Virgin, and blood started to flow.
  • July 26, 1973
The Guardian Angel promised to Sister Agnes that her sufferings (sharp pain from a cross-shaped wound) will end today. And He asked to say to her superior that the blood shed by the statue of the Virgin Mary was shed this day for the last time.
  • August 3, 1973
Sister Agnes received the second Message from Virgin Mary.
  • September 29, 1973
A cross-shaped wound disappeared from the hand of the statue of the Blessed Virgin.
  • September 29, 1973
On September 29, the day the wound on the statue disappeared, the sisters noticed the statue had now begun to "sweat", especially on the forehead and neck.
  • October 13, 1973
It was on Saturday, October 13, the anniversary day of the last Apparition of the Virgin Mary to the three children of Fatima, that Virgin Mary gave to Sister Agnes Her third Message, the most important and serious one...
  • May, 1974
The Guardian Angel promised that her deafness will be restored and than healed.
  • October 13, 1974
    Sister Agnes deafness temporarily restored.
  • January 4, 1975
    The statue started weeping.
The tears, sweat and blood from the statue were sent for laboratory analysis.
  • December, 1975
The Guardian Angel appeared to Sister Agnes.
  • August 4, 1981
A Korean woman, Theresa Chun, with terminal brain cancer received immediate healing while praying before the statute in 1981.
  • September 15, 1981
Father Yasuda, Sister Agnes’ spiritual director witnessed the statue crying ninety-eight times of the total 101 times. September 15, 1981 the statue wept the last, 101 time.
  • September 29, 1981
During the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Sister Agnes felt the presence of her angel at her side. She did not see the form of the angel, but instead an open Bible appeared before her eyes. The Bible revealed the reference, Genesis 3:15. The Angel explained that the passage had a relationship with the tears of Mary and then continued: “There is a meaning to the figure one hundred and one. It signifies that sin came into the world by a woman and it is also by a woman that salvation came into the world. The zero between the two signifies the eternal GOD who is from all eternity until eternity. The first one represents Eve and the last, the Blessed Virgin Mary.” Sister Agnes re-read the verse, then the angel and the vision of the Bible disappeared.
  • May 30, 1982
Agnes' hearing is restored permanently in accord with the promise of the Angel.
  • April 22, 1984
After having himself been an eyewitness of the events, and having carefully investigated them for years, Most Rev. John Shojiro Ito, Bishop of Niigata (the diocese Akita belongs to) declared the events of Akita, Japan, to be of supernatural origin, and authorized throughout the entire diocese the veneration of the Holy Mother of Akita, in a long message which he ordered to be read in every parish of his diocese on Easter Sunday, April 22, 1984.
  • June, 1988
In 1988, Bishop Ito brought his letter to Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger — then Pope Benedict XVI — who allowed the pastoral letter and its dissemination to the faithful.
